Business Plan Writing

As a trained Business Coach, former Lender and Business Plan Writer, I can attest the Business Plan is the most important tool for any business. This essential written document summarizes the business strategy for the proposed new venture or expansion and how that strategy will be implemented. It further serves as the first step to securing funding from investors.

One of my greatest privileges as a Business Coach has been to help entrepreneurs develop their business plans. I recalled at this meeting how I wrote about 200 business plans and as such helped about 200 businesses get started or better yet, in some cases not get started and saved financial heartache. Below is a description of a business plan. For anyone interested, I am happy to share with you a great tool, the Skeena Coach business plan workbook.

What is a business plan?

For your business to succeed, you need to know where you're going and how you'll get there. A business plan does just this by defining your business; the plan identifies your business goals, strategy for the future and financial progress. It helps you allocate resources properly, handle unforeseen complications, and make good business decisions.

Business plans are mostly for YOU! Some people see a business plan simply as work they have to do to get money from a bank or investor. Not so! Business plans are very effective at making your business more successful and reducing your chance of failure. That is why banks, investors and lenders like the All Nations Trust Company, Community Futures, Business Development Bank and chartered banks require them.

There are two parts to your business plan:

Your Vision: This is a description of your business. It covers areas such as the products or services you are selling, your customers, how you will make your customers want to buy from you, who your competition is, etc. This is where you explain your plans for today and areas of expansion for tomorrow.

Your Financial Needs: This is a summary of the money needed to get your new business off the ground, or change your existing one, it includes a balance sheet, an income statement, and a cash flow analysis that will provide estimates of the sales, cash and expenses you expect your company to have over the next one to three years.

Additionally, a business plan will serve as your company's resume. BUSINESS PLANS WORK!

Feasibility Studies

A project feasibility study is a comprehensive report that examines in detail the five frames of analysis of a given project. It also takes into consideration its four Ps, its risks and POVs, and its constraints (calendar, costs, and norms of quality). The goal is to determine whether the project should go ahead, be redesigned, or else be abandoned altogether. The five frames of analysis are:

• The frame of definition

• The frame of contextual risks

• The frame of potentiality

• The parametric frame

• The frame of dominant

The four Ps are traditionally defined as:

• Plan

• Processes

• People

• Power

The risks are external to the project (e.g., weather conditions) and are divided into eight categories:

(Plan) financial and organizational

(Processes) environmental and technological

(People) marketing and sociocultural

(Power) legal and political

POVs are Points of Vulnerability: they differ from risks in the sense that they are internal to the project and can be controlled or else eliminated.

The constraints are the standard constraints of calendar, costs and norms of quality that can each be objectively determined and measured along the entire project lifecycle. Depending on projects, portions of the study may suffice to produce a feasibility study; smaller projects, for example, may not require an exhaustive environmental assessment.

Common factors

TELOS is an acronym in project management used to define five areas of feasibility that determine whether a project should run or not.

1. T - Technical - Is the project technically possible?

2. E - Economic - Can the project be afforded?

3. L - Legal - Is the project legal?

4. O - Operational/Organizational - How will the current operations support the project?

5. S - Scheduling - Can the project be done in time?

How Skeena Coach Feasibility Studies Differ

Skeena Coach considers one more, is it ethical?  Today, social currency is an important factor in determining the success of any new venture.

6. E-Ethical - Is the project ethical?

Grant Writing & Fundraising

Writing a successful grant proposal takes a great deal of knowledge, skill, and experience. While many organizations attempt to handle the grant writing process in-house with existing staff, an investment in a professional grant writer will pay off with more grants won and allow you the time to focus on your organization’s good works.

Together, let’s plan and implement a strategy to reach your goal. Let me share my years of experience in securing funding for new business start-ups, business expansions, and non-profit organizations.

We can write a successful grant or proposal. This effort takes a great deal of knowledge, skill, and experience. This essential written document summarizes the business strategy for the proposed new venture or expansion and how that strategy will be implemented. Further, let’s explore potential experiential fundraising opportunities for your non-profit. You do good works, now let others invest in your efforts through innovative and engaging fundraising activities.

Making Notes

Professional Destination Services

Professional destination services refer to the assistance and support provided to individuals or businesses when they are relocating to a new location. These services can include a wide range of support, from helping with the logistics of the move itself to providing information and guidance on the new location to helping individuals and businesses settle in and get acclimated to their new surroundings.

One of the main benefits of professional destination services is the convenience they provide. Relocating to a new location can be a stressful and overwhelming experience, especially if you are unfamiliar with the area. Professional destination services can help alleviate some of that stress by handling many of the logistical details of the move, such as coordinating the transport of household goods and personal belongings, arranging temporary housing, and assisting with the set-up of utilities and other essential services.

In addition to handling the logistics of the move, professional destination services can also provide valuable information and support to help individuals and businesses adjust to their new location. This can include assistance with finding schools and childcare, guidance on local laws and regulations, and introductions to key community resources and services. Some destination services may also include cultural training and language assistance to help individuals and businesses better understand and navigate the customs and norms of their new location.

Overall, professional destination services can be an invaluable resource for individuals and businesses relocating to a new location. By providing assistance with the logistics of the move and offering support and guidance to help with the transition to a new location, these services can help make the process of relocating smoother and less stressful.

What is Coaching?

4 Pillars of Coaching Methodology

1. Solution-Focused

Moves clients towards their desired future outcomes, instead of concentrating on past experiences or reasons for present dissatisfaction.

2. Systematic

Emphasizes your holistic nature, seeing how positive change can fit into your bigger picture.

3. Action-Oriented

Pursues transformational change in specific, inspired steps that lead to fundamental shifts in attitude, behaviour, and habit formation.

4. Client-Centered

Allows you to trust your inner resources and skills, respecting your agenda and future outcomes.

Coaching is an advice free zone.

What Coaching is Not

Counselling

Unlike therapists and counsellors, coaches do not focus on the childhood or past experiences that might be the root of the way a person lives or feels. Instead, they help their clients get clear on what they want in the future, why they want it, and how they are going to achieve it.

Consulting

Consultants diagnose the needs of an organization or individual and offer their own solutions based on their specialized expertise to ‘fix the problem; solutions which they often implement for the client as well. Coaches use tools and processes to help clients to generate their own solutions and then hold them accountable for following through.

Sports Coach

Someone new to coaching might hear the word "coach" and think football, but sports coaches generally are in charge, setting the goals and the path to victory. Teaching, correcting, and managing are all skills a sports coach would use. Professional life, business or executive coaching is the opposite; it's the client who sets the goals.
